Art & See Portraits: AI-assisted custom-art commerce

Art & See sells hand-painted portraits and AI reproductions worldwide. It needed one storefront that could take any photo, preview it in six mediums, price it, take payment and run the whole order lifecycle — across 15 languages and two very different fulfillment models: instant AI download and a months-long hand-painted commission.

I built it end to end — a React/Vite storefront on a Node/Express + Postgres backend, Medusa for catalogue and orders, Stripe for payments. I wired Google Gemini for real-time photo→painting previews and to batch-translate the whole catalogue and UI into 15 languages, with caching and a cost kill-switch. Hand-painted orders run a 20% deposit / 80%-on-approval split; AI orders check out instantly with the preview baked into the order.
